The Making of a Multiband Vertical Antenna – Callum M0MCX, DX Commander

Join us for a very entertaining and informative evening with no other than Callum M0MCX, DX Commander – a YouTube celebrity no less.

Callum will be talking to us about how he designed and made a multiband vertical antenna, explaining how it works, and what kind of performance to expect. A multiband vertical antenna can offer great performance with a very limited footprint, and with the added versatility that it can operate on multiple bands. Club Night Natter for Bury Radio Society members

We will have an opportunity to just generally get together, on Zoom, with our mugs or glasses at hand, to have a natter. So it’s mainly just for Bury Radio Society for this one. (Warrington ARC are also having a similar evening for their own club on this night too.)

The months ahead will see our world opening up, and with us doing more things. So it will be great for us to hear what we are planning on getting up to.

The Magic Band by Don Field G3XTT

Don Field G3XTT will take us through the fascinating properties of the 6m Band which results in people calling it “The Magic Band“.

The propagation properties of this band, as it is nestled between the HF bands and the VHF bands, give remarkable and often unexpected results.

These propagation properties attract enthusiasts who seek out these often unpredictable properties but with incredible results.

Don has also written the book, “The Magic Bands” which covers 6m and 4m. The book is available from the RSGB, Practical Wireless and Amazon.

Don Field G3XTT is a well-known person in amateur radio, having been on the board of the RSGB, carried out DXpeditions, and is the editor of Practical Wireless.

Using the nanoVNA by Alan W2AEW

    20:00 -21:00
    22/06/2021UTC

Using the nanoVNA by Alan W2AEW

So you have bought a nanoVNA because everyone else seems to have one? Have you not managed to actually use it? Well, Alan W2AEW will walk you through how to use your nanoVNA and get it doing useful stuff.

The nanoVNA, (if you haven’t bought one), is an incredibly cheaply priced “Vector Network Analyzer”. Despite the complicated title, in essence, you can use it just as an antenna analyzer with a plot of SWR against frequency. It’s just a case of setting it up how you want to use it.

Alan W2AEW is a hugely popular and prolific chap on YouTube who has a very special ability to explain things in a very clear way, often with handwritten notes and helpful diagrams.

Tuesday 22nd June 2021, 8pm BST (which is 1900 UTC, or 3pm EST)

This event is hosted on Zoom:

This talk was booked by Trystan G0KAY, but now needs the committee to make contact with Alan to re-confirm the booking with the Zoom details.
